The first Comae C919 flight-test aircraft should be moving on the ground on its own power by the end of this year. There is almost no hope of meeting the current target for a first flight in 2016, but taxi tests are probably only weeks away, say industry sources. The first flight-test aircraft is complete, say sources with close insight into the program. The challenge is to do all the ground testing needed before flying it. The list of outstanding test items is too long for completion before year-end, so the aircraft is most likely to take to the air in the second quarter of 2017, maybe in April, though Comae is working hard to make the flight before the Chinese new year on Jan. 28.
