One year after the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 (MH370), airlines and the commercial air transport industry continue to strongly support international calls for high-fidelity tracking of aircraft flying in oceanic and remote areas starting next year-but there is a catch. How exactly to implement the tracking solution, and more fundamentally, whether the cost-benefit case makes sense for airlines are crucial questions that will either define or derail the movement.
