LOT Polish Airlines has been in crisis mode for many years. The state-owned carrier, burdened by obsolete structures and government interference, could call mere survival a success amid the tumultuous development of Europe's airlines in the recent past. But now LOT has a plan to break out over the next five years. With an ambitious expansion plan, the airline aims to double passenger numbers by 2020. LOT plans a major investment in a new fleet, including new narrowbodies and long-haul aircraft, but needs additional equity to do so. CEO Sebastian Mikosz recently presented the plan in Warsaw, where the Star Alliance Chief Executive Board met for its twice-annual session.
