As the U.S. Air Force refines its requirements for T-X, formally known as the Advanced Pilot Training Family of Systems program, competition is intensifying, with competitors and other observers noting that the service is looking for a capable, high-performance aircraft to prepare pilots for the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter. Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) is studying a further package of improvements for the T-50 Golden Eagle, offered for USAF together with Lockheed Martin, while Alenia Aer-macchi is still in talks with a new U.S. partner, telling Aviation Week that a deal should be announced "very soon."
