The increasingly complex orbital infrastructure in place around Earth is offering new ways to save money on spacecraft that can use the high-ground vantage point to generate benefits on the surface. A weather-forecasting experiment bankrolled by NASA, for example, may lead to constellations of small satellites that work in tandem with GPS and other navigation systems to generate vital weather data that more expensive spacecraft can't provide.
