Airbus Helicopters is targeting operators of Russian-built rotorcraft with a relaunched derivative of its Super Puma helicopter to be built in Romania. By producing it in Transylvania, Airbus believes it can reduce the bite of the helicopter's cost by 10-15% and close the price gap between the Super Puma and Russian rotorcraft such as the Mil Mi-17 and Kamov Ka-32, types often attractively priced for emerging markets. The project will also help to revive the once-thriving Romanian aircraft industry, which has not built an aircraft in at least a decade.
