"Jets Will Fly from HMS Queen Elizabeth in 2018" is the message on posters plastered around the Rosyth naval dockyard here. That milestone may be four years away, but the ship itself is now a reality. While still covered in scaffolding and partly painted, the 65,000-metric-ton (currently 70,000-metric-ton) vessel, the largest ship ever to be operated by the Royal Navy, is virtually complete, with only a handful of minor structural works to be completed in the coming weeks. Work is underway to prepare for its July 4 naming by Queen Elizabeth Ⅱ. Inside, hundreds of workers are installing the remaining one million meters of wiring, and fitting and testing the various systems that will support the vessel's operation.
