With a wave of new products entering service beginning this year, civil rotor-craft manufacturers are hoping signs of returning demand seen in 2011 will turn into a recovery starting in 2012. But with many of the market's sectors heavily dependent on economic growth, any recovery will be slow. Deliveries of the Eurocopter EC175 and Sikorsky S-76D medium twins begin this year, targeted initially at an oil and gas sector that has resisted the overall commercial helicopter market downturn from its peak in 2008. Leading the medium-twin market with its AW139, AgustaWestland will follow up in 2014 with the smaller AW169 and larger AW189. Bell Helicopter is also developing a new civil machine, likely a medium twin, under its Magellan project.
