Investors are betting that an infusion of government money and a revised business plan will lead to restarting production of the Fokker 100 where previous attempts have failed. If things go well, a prototype could be airborne in 2012 and customer deliveries of the so-called Next-Generation Fokker would commence in 2015.rnDevelopment plans are still in their formative stage but by mid-year, program backers expect to have many of the technical and financial details spelled out, including the engine choice. A new powerplant is a key element as the fledgling company, NG Aircraft, based at Amsterdam Schiphol Airport, tries to achieve 15-18% lower fuel burn and CO_2 savings over the Embraer 190 regional jet, which it regards as the benchmark.
