India's fervor for self-sufficiency in the defense sector has been matched so far only by its inability to deliver fully on this aspiration. The path is marked with failed-or ineffective-programs, while others stretch decades beyond their original development and delivery schedules.rnIndia's Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), a bellwether project, was first foreseen as entering service in the 1990s but has yet to take its place in the Indian air force inventory.
