If the heat of the Aerospace & Defense Industry is its innovation in solving society's toughest problems, the underlying current is the performance of its programs. Leaders from throughout the industry gathered Nov. 1-3 to analyze and recognize both through Aviation Week's Innovation Challenge and Program Excellence events. During the 2010 evaluation process, board members noted continuing issues surrounding integrating multi-cultural and geographically far-flung teams. From dealing with diminishing material supplies to controlling creeping requirements, leaders worked to see "how fast they could run" to outpace shrinking budgets and the risk of unknown future geopolitical issues.
