The aircraft leasing market is showing early signs of strength, giving hope of some recovery in 2010, despite airline bankruptcies, widespread capacity reductions and the likelihood of several more difficult months.rnKlaus Heinemann, CEO of Dutch leasing firm AerCap, says that "toward the end of the first quarter, we noticed a significant renewal of airline interest in contracting new capacity for 2010 and beyond." Most of those have been for the first and second quarter of 2010, with a few letters of intent also linked to deliveries in 2011 and 2012, he adds.rnThe rebound in market activity, first seen in late March, so far is continuing, he says. "That's distinctly different than in December through February," he adds.rnSeveral factors have contributed to the change in market dynamics, he believes. One is simply niche carriers filling out their needs. But Heinemann also cites resumption in activity in China's domestic air travel. Finally, some airlines with fleet replacement needs have opted to defer aircraft on order and instead leased capacity to preserve cash.
