I read your article, "Grounded", which described the process that led to the recent grounding of the space shuttle fleet, with mounting dismay and finally a sense of outrage. After 26 years, the best information is that the engine cutoff (ECO) sensors never worked, and the conclusion by some members of the engineering/safety community was to fly without them. Thank goodness the astronauts appear to have trumped the process.
