L-3 Communications President and CEO Michael T.Strianese has spent the last two years trying to stitch together a collection of more than 70 businesses the company had amassed. Scrapping the stovepipe system of his predecessor, the late Frank Lanza, Strianese has consolida ted units, scaled back acquisitions and sought to coordinate R&D at the corporate level. In an interview at L-3's midtown Manhattan headquarters with AW&ST Editor-in-Chief Anthony L. Velocci, Jr., and Senior Business Editor Joseph C. Anselmo, Strianese refuted the notion that L-3 is a collection of disparate businesses and explained why he's not worried about the potential of a Democratic President or a drawdown in Iraq.
