摘要

Hypersonic technology is not easy. Just ask any of the engineers and scientists working on various Mach 4-plus air-breathing missile or air vehicle projects today, or the generations before them who tackled the same problems up to 40 years ago. As a result it is hardly surprising that the pace of international partnering is picking up in hypersonic testing and development. Although still jealously protected in some countries, the sheer technical challenges of hypersonic flight, limited budgets and even more limited test facilities have begun to force hypersonic hopefuls into each others arms. Australia and the U.S. have paved the way for much of the new collaborative approach through the Hycause and Hiflre projects, while Europe's Lapcat II and Atllas research efforts are drawing together nations across the continent. National projects in China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Russia and the U.K. are also underway, some of which are inviting others outside their borders to collaborate.
