The Russian government is preparing to plow money and orders into engine-maker NPO Saturn now that private stakeholders have given up their bid to remain independent and acquiesced to Moscow's nationalization plans for the business. The move on Saturn is the first major example of direct government support to Russia's struggling defense-industrial complex. Several defense contractors, unable to secure export awards to ride them through the economic strife that has the nation in its grip, are struggling.
