How well Boeing successfully implements its vision of a just-in-time, global manufacturing enterprise for the 787 will depend to a large extent on how well it aligns the processes of its supplier network. Details of the design and assembly processes are linked in a common, secure network that reflects work packages for Boeing's select group of Tier 1 suppliers as well as the Tier 2 group that supports them. It is one of those dull-but-essential tasks for Boeing to manage this network so that logistical information can be synchronized for the entire 787 manufacturing supply chain.
