The FAA's light-sport aircraft rule has the potential to significantly reduce the cost of learning to fly and buying a new aircraft by breaking down barriers that block access to entry-level aviation.rnEarl Lawrence, vice president of industry and regulatory affairs for the Experimental Aircraft Assn. (EAA), says the infant LSA segment of the general aviation marketplace is transitioning from the start-up phase to creation of infrastructure that will support and promote expansion. "The FAA has licensed about 1,000 sport pilots since the LSA rule became effective, but we need to build an infrastructure so new people can take advantage of the Light-Sport Aircraft category," he says.
