Honeywell Aerospace has opened an advanced technology lab in Mexicali to test integrated systems including avionics, propulsion, electrical and other types of equipment as demand grows for more consolidated designs.rnThe new facility will focus on testing early prototypes of integrated systems. These units consolidate functions in a way favored by Airbus, Boeing and other commercial aircraft manufacturers who are asking suppliers to cut weight, improve performance and limit the number of line-replaceable units. The 100,000-sq.-ft. lab will consolidate a broad range of testing capability in one building—the first facility of its kind at Honeywell dedicated to specifically checking out equipment at a technical readiness (TR) level of 1-6 on a scale of 9. This includes anything up to a prototype level (TR 6).
