Aloha Airlines faces multiple challenges this year including high fuel prices, a restructured arch rival and potential new island competitors, but industry veteran and CEO David Banmiller is feeling confident after successfully guiding the airline through bankruptcy reorganization. Despite the potential hurdles, Banmiller promises profits and growth at the small privately held airline with a rich 60-year history. In one of his first interviews after exiting Chapter 11 on Feb. 17, Banmiller told Aviation Week & Space Technology that the carrier is on track to top its $27-million pre-tax profit goal this year. He also predicts the airline will start growing again in 2007 with some possible new routes from Hawaii to the U.S. mainland.
