Germany's aerospace industry expects continued growth in sales and jobs this year as the sector benefits from a surge in civil aircraft spending and a restructuring of its previously faltering space initiative. National aerospace association BDLI is confident this year's Berlin air show—ILA—will demonstrate the sector's strength and bolster demands for more public research and development spending. ILA, which runs May 16-21, is the first major aerospace event in the country since the grand-coalition government took office late last year. BDLI Chairman Thomas Enders (who is also Co-CEO of EADS) points out that initial signs are encouraging and that he is pleased by political commitments made by the new administration. BDLI LAST YEAR SAW TOTAL revenues for the industry grow by 16.2% to 18.6 billion euros ($23.6 billion). The sector, for the first time in five years, exceeded the record sales achieved in 2000 by 600 million euros. Germany's aerospace sector employed 81,300 people, 6,400 or 8.3% more than a year earlier.
