摘要

The U.S. is setting the stage for the next generation of explosives detection for checked and carry-on baggage with a "system-of-sys-tems" approach that will use sensors in tandem. Rather than relying primarily on a single machine with one type of sensor to scan checked luggage, multiple sensors may be combined in one device. With this eventual shift to next-generation systems, the Transportation Security Administration hopes to increase efficiency, reduce the footprint of existing equipment, improve detection capability, and reduce the need for personnel to oversee passenger and baggage screening.
