Has the convergence of technologies that switched on the electric aircraft market also made it possible to build a compact, safe and quiet personal flying device that anyone can use, anywhere? The Boeing-sponsored GoFly Challenge thinks so and has unveiled the 10 winners of the first phase of the $2 million competition.The 10 vertical-takeoff-and-landing (VTOL) designs were selected from164 submissions by a panel of 97 industry and academic experts who assessed their feasibility and suitability. Each of the winners receives $20,000 and proceeds to Phase 2, in which they will build and fly their vehicles.
