摘要

The rapid growth in Asia's air travel is putting pressure not just on the region's airlines but also on the national regulators charged with their oversight. Aviation authorities in some of Asia's hottest markets are attempting to prove to the U.S. FAA that they have the staffing and framework to adequately monitor their airlines.Oversight agencies in Thailand and Vietnam are seeking the Category 1 safety rating from the FAA that is required for their airlines to introduce service to the U.S. and to codeshare with U.S. carriers. India, meanwhile, is taking steps to address the FAA's concerns and avoid the prospect of a downgrade of its rating. Indonesia has had its safety rating restored in recent years, following previous downgrades by U.S. and European organizations.
