On the surface, the biggest event in Chinese commercial aviation in 2019 will be China Southern Airlines' departure from the SkyTeam alliance, announced in November, followed by a possible move toward Oneworld. But an accumulation of smaller shifts in the industry may have a combined longer effect, as the government drives carriers to improve their service.Under the terms of China Southern's departure from SkyTeam, the process is supposed to wind up in 2019.Oneworld is the most obvious choice for a new alliance, since the country's other two big carriers, Air China and China Eastern Airlines, are members of the Star Alliance and SkyTeam, respectively.
