Europe's aerospace industry slowly but surely is gaining a solid foothold in China—and the implications are huge. Such a trend could also strengthen moves within the European Union to lift the partial military embargo on China, a major cause of political friction with the U.S. Memorandums of understanding, letters of intent and commitments recently inked by China's authorities are evolving into solid business ventures. The China Aviation Supplies Import & Export Group Corp. (CASGC) signed an agreement to buy 20 Airbus A330-300 twinjets, Eurocopter completed an industrial arrangement to assemble HC120 helicopters in Harbin while Alcatel Space secured an order for a direct broadcasting satellite.
