Bads is planning a worldwide un-dertaking aimed at increasing the company's ability to draw on pri-vate and institutional research worldwide, and to help decrease the huge gap in research and development spending between Europe and the U.S. The European aerospace and defense contractor last week presented the first element in the undertaking, dubbed the Advanced Technology Initiative (ATI)—a French-based foundation that will endeavor to generate more private money for R&D efforts and establish closer links with public research institutes. It will be backed by a five-year, 24-million-euro ($29-mil-lion) injection from EADS.
