Dassault Aviation engineers say their next-generation ultra long-range Falcon 7X is proceeding on schedule toward an inaugural flight in the first half of 2005, and is more than meeting major production and design performance goals. Falcon 7X production workers mated the wing to the fuselage in mid-September, and confirmed that the first aircraft would be completed by the end of the year—just seven months after detail parts were readied for assembly. Production Manager Jean-Luc Sailliol said this represented a halving of assembly time compared with previous Falcon Jet programs, and would help ensure the 7X remains price competitive despite substantial investment in new design, The aircraft's price tag is expected to be "under $40 million" in predicted 2006 dollars (AW&ST May 31, p. 73).
