As European nations pursue a new generation of combat aircraft, missile manufacturer MBDA believes novel armaments will be needed to equip them. The company is unveiling concepts for six weapons and effectors that could equip the Franco-German Future Combat Air System (FCAS) and Britain's Tempest. MBDA's vision of future air warfare paints a picture of a complex battlefield with advanced threats. After 20 years of unparalleled air superiority over the battlefield, the company says such dominance may be "temporary and geographically limited," but it can then be used to open a window to achieve a military objective. "In the future, this will not be a fight of platforms against other platforms, but a fight between network against network . .. and the most reactive and the swiftest among the two will win," say MBDA officials working on the FCAS weapon concepts. Officials are not named due to MBDA policy.
