摘要

Spain has made bold defense spending commitments in a bid to maintain and ultimately strengthen Airbus' presence in the country post-COVID-19. Madrid will buy new fleets of aircraft and helicopters and will also fund studies for a new pan-European advanced jet trainer that could go on to train the pilots who will fly the European Future Combat Air System (FCAS), agreements announced by joint communique revealed on July 30 following meetings between Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez and Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury. While the package is not on the scale of that provided by France and Germany in recent weeks (AW&ST Feb. 10-23, p. 34), Madrid is hoping the package will stem a tide of headcount reductions like those seen elsewhere in Europe as aerospace adjusts to a post-pandemic new normal.
