摘要

In many cases, regional operators have managed to withstand the COVID-19 crisis better than the broader commercial aviation industry. But changes in strategy and the regional airline business model are expected to reshape the sector as it emerges from the downturn over the coming years. Regional routes are the only way to get from point A to point B sometimes. Many regional operators rely heavily on domestic networks in Europe especially, which is good news when international travel restrictions are otherwise stifling demand. And Public Service Obligation routes protect some operators from the worst of the downturn. The world's regions are far from equal, however. The improving situation in the U.S. is encouraging, thanks to the relatively successful vaccination campaign there. But in Europe, demand for air travel is still in a slump, and the situation there is as variable as its market is fragmented.
