Multinational energy company EDP has partnered with Embraer's Eve Urban Air Mobility Solutions to evaluate development of a viable charging infrastructure for electric air taxis. Portugal-headquartered EDP is already collaborating with the Brazilian manufacturer to fly an electric-propulsion demonstrator based on the Ipanema agricultural aircraft. The deal came as leaders of the nascent electric aviation industry sent a July 13 letter to House and Senate leadership urging that eligibility for funding and financing of charging infrastructure for electric aircraft be included in the bipartisan infrastructure framework now being considered by Congress.The letter was signed by eight electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing (eVTOL) startups: Archer, Beta, Eve, Hyundai, Joby, Lilium, Overair and Wisk. Five other electric aircraft developers signed, including Ampaire, Bye, Evia-tion, MagniX and Pipistrel. Six infrastructure companies also signed.
