NASA is poised to unveil a sweep- ing commereial space policy de- signed to fundamentally change the character of the U.S. space agency into an organization that's as dedicated to planting its flag on Wall Street and Madison Avenue as on the Moon or Mars. The new guidelines would open NASA space efforts to far more widespread business ties with the private sector for the conduct of NASA operations as well as use of NASA support for commercial merchandising, advertising and entertainment programming. The agency is also likely to renew corporate astronaut flights that were largely abandoned 15 years ago after the Challenger accident.
