In the September issue, you featured an article about applying decals. It had some good tips, but how do you remove a decal? Some of mine are peeling at the edges and I'd like to replace them with new decals. Keep up the great work; Backyard Flyer is my favorite RC magazine. George Senger, emailrnThanks for writing, George. It seems as though everyone has a favorite method of removing decals, but here are a few of our top methods. If you're working with stick-on decals, use a heat gun to loosen the glue and gently pull the decal off your plane. If they're water-slide decals, put a large piece of clear packing tape on the decal and slowly pull up; the decal should come up with the tape. You can clean up the residue with lacquer thinner, alcohol, lighter fluid or, my personal favorite, Goo Gone. Patience is key when you're removing any decal, and remember that if you're peeling the decal off a painted surface, you'll likely need to touch up the paint afterward.
