摘要

I didn't get my license in a Champ. That dubious honor goes to the Piper Tri-Pacer. I did, however, learn to fly in a Champ, and there's a gigantic difference between getting your license and actually learning to fly. One is a three-dimensional form of driving while the other is actual aviating. The well over 1,000 hours I was to eventually put into Champs taught me what i was supposed to have learned about flying when getting my license, but didn't.rnAlthough it's heresy to say so, the truth is that many of us who learned to fly in the '50s and early '60s owe more to the Champ than we do the Cub. This is because flight schools that had always depended on the Cub began to shift over to the Champ because it offered so many operational advantages. And therein lays the source of some serious Cub versus Champ controversies.
