The Southeast Electric Flight Festival is the largest electric meet in the country right now and every aspect of electric flight is represented there. The Backyard Flyer community of subjects has become so popular that it now garners show center for its flightline. There are five flight-lines, which allows every type of electric plane to have a dedicated area-that's a huge statement as to the popularity of park flyers! We used to say that someday, "anything will be possible with electrics" and I think that day has arrived. Along with the usual subjects fitting into established categories like scale, sport and helicopter, I found some unique aircraft flying around the field that deserve their own category. . . I just don't know what to call them. Some are made of foam, others are made of balsa and covering. Some are modified for night flight and some are just modified...well, because the builder wanted to modify.
