There are many reasonable ways to approach academic writing such as that you will find in Behavioral & Social Sciences Librarian. Some authors see it as a means to the personal gratification of producing scholarship, while others simply want to share ideas and encourage feedback that can lead to other writing. A few might even say they just want get something published so they can achieve a greater goal like promotion and tenure. Whatever your reason, I believe writing should first and foremost seek to communicate with the reader.
