New employment legislation has been proposed in the USA which is designed to prevent unauthorized work in the country by requiring verification of all new employees through the use of a more reliable, technologically advanced verification system than currently exists (the E-Verify program). The new bill (New Employee Verification Act - NEVA) was introduced by representatives Gabrielle Giffords and Sam Johnson. They hope the bill, which optionally takes advantage of biometric authentication, will either be the foundation for employment verification in a broader immigration bill or move through Congress on its own.
