Richard Sennett should write less. Taking to task so humane a thinker of our times is no pleasure, since everything he tackles is steeped in curiosity, generosity and passion. Perhaps that is why The Craftsman has attracted such universally glowing notices. To this reviewer the praise seems excessive. Though passages of the book are excellent, I found its argument and production alike spoiled by haste.
