South African transport utility Transnet has dropped its short-term target of boosting its coal carrying capacity on the line to Richards Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) to 81 Mtpa, but retains its more ambitious long-term goals. The company blames the lack of demand for additional coal exports. It transported 76.3 Mt to RBCT in financial year 2014-15 and 72.1 Mt in 2015-16, while it expects to rail 73.2 Mt for the year to the end of next March.
