摘要

A review of the genus Amphimallon is presented. After a brief summary of the systematics of this genus, a historical biogeographical scenario is presented to explain species diversity within this genus, considering geological events in the Mediterranean Basin from the Late Paleogene (35 MYBP) till today. Lastly, a synthesis of our knowledge of the development, larval cycle and mating behaviour is given.
