The kindle is a good Version 1.0. So do you go for it, wait for Version 2 or 3, or hang on at all costs to the print book, newspaper, and magazine? We've already witnessed the shift of music and video to digital formats and are currently witnessing the movement of newspapers and magazines to digital format. Jeff Bezos, chairman of Amazon, credits the book's ability to last this long to its good design. But how loud will the cries from students and parents lamenting the high cost of textbooks (often erroneously attributed to publishers and authors, but that's another issue) have to get before we recognize that a good solution for reducing textbook cost might be an ebook reader like the Kindle?
