Farewell, Ireland: It looks like corporate America will finally bring that cash home. For years, the likes of Apple Inc. and Microsoft Corp. have stashed billions of dollars offshore to slash their U.S. tax bills. Now the tax code rewrite could throw that into reverse. Multinationals will have to pay a one-time tax on income they've accumulated abroad, while paying a lower rate than they would have owed before. The great onshoring could prompt the companies-which actually park much of their overseas profits not in foreign assets but in Treasuries and U.S. corporate bonds-to lighten up on fixed-income investments and use the money to goose their stock prices. Think buy-backs and dividends.
