If you want to taste the actual bourbon-the barrel aging and the spices-you should have it neat. If you want to open it up, add a drop of water. If you have to use the soda machine, I'd go for a whiskey-Coke or whiskey-ginger ale. Mountain Dew is definitely not a good choice. I'd go plastic on this one, to preserve the flavor. Think about when you put your mouth on plastic and when you put your mouth on paper. You usually can taste the wax coating on paper.
