"It's Not a Crisis of Confidence" (BusinessWeek.com, Oct. 27) asked: What if the financial meltdown is a symptom, not a cause ? What if we face a wrenching readjustment of the worldwide economy? Those questions drew plenty of comment from readers, many of whom agreed with the article's conclusion that today's problems go far beyond any financial excesses. At the root are some long-accepted, but simply unsustainable, patterns of global technology transfer, trade, and finance.
