When the SINCE (Secure and Interoperable Networking for Contactless in Europe) project was launched in December 2001, its primary objective was to promote, harmonise and stimulate the widespread uptake of contactless technology. Two years on, the project is now reaching its conclusion. In this feature, we take a look at the findings of one of the reports published during the project as well as examining the overall work of SINCE. Fitting in with the framework of the eEurope initiative launched by the European Commission in December 1999, SINCE falls into the category of the e-Europe Smart Card Charter Trailblazer 6 (TB6 Contactless smart cards), which was established to work on contactless interoperability, security evaluation and protection profiles, and to set up roadmaps for migration from contact to contactless cards.
