Japanese consumers use credit sparingly-making more than 90% of their purchases in cash. Soon, however, mobile network operators and credit card com- panies promise consumers will be able to wield their ubiquitous mobile phones to charge purchases at a range of shops, restaurants and entertainment venues. A growing percentage of the phones will come embedded with contactless chips storing credit or other payment applications.
