摘要

Brazilian all-cargo carrier Rio Linhas Aereas received certification from the country's National Civil Aviation Agency to operate its second 767-200F. This is the second of two 767-200Fs Rio has taken this year on a 59-month dry-lease contract with Cargo Aircraft Management (CAM), the leasing arm of US-based Air Transport Services Group. The freighter, which is being used in domestic operations only, had its first flight between Brazil's business capital Sao Paulo to the Amazonia capital Manaus with a load of 40 tonnes, close to full capacity. It will be operating that route twice a week during the busy Christmas season, and then once a week in the new year. In January, Rio Linhas Aereas will be releasing its strategic plan for the coming year, part of which includes new updates to the fleet. Last steps for LAN and TAM: The acquisition of Brazil-based airline TAM by Chile-based LAN AIRLINES has been given approval by Brazilian antitrust agency general attorney, Gilvandro Araujo. The deal, worth $3.3 billion, has been delayed for months pending approval by the antitrust authority (commonly known as Cade). Mr. Araujo announced at the beginning of December that he recommended that the transaction proceed without restrictions. However, the deal still needs to be voted on by the whole Cade board, a process which is about to get under way as Cargo Facts goes to press. Once final approval is granted, the two airlines will be merged into one and be known as LATAM. The cargo arm of LAN operates a fleet of twelve 767-300Fs and two 777Fs, and will be adding two more 777Fs in the coming year. TAM's cargo arm uses belly space of its 153-unit passenger fleet. TAM serves 42 airports in Brazil with direct flights from over 400 cities, and it delivers to over 4,200 locations. Tarn Cargo International serves around 45 countries and more than 120 cities throughout the world.
