On 6th November 2012, the European Environment Agency published a report on waste shipments, entitled "Movements of waste across the EU's internal and external borders". According to the report, although a decrease in waste shipments was registered in 2008 and 2009, due to the financial crisis, it has otherwise increased. This increase is believed to be the result of EU policies in the field of waste, as well as a lack of recycling and disposal facilities.
