CompUSA has landed in the Windy City with a bang, pre-miering a dynamic store design that brings new energy to computer retailing. Reaching out to a more sophisticated urban audience, the retailer has abandoned its standard warehouse-styled look for a more contemporary image. Vibrant colors have replaced CompUSA's traditional gray and red monotones, and striking graphics have been employed to provide visual excitement and category definition. "Our downtown Chicago prototype is a total departure from what CompUSA has done in the past, both structurally and graphically," says Jim Paddock, senior director, store planning, CompUSA, Dallas.
